Program Learning Outcomes: Program learning outcomes flow from the CoARC-mandated requirement to“ develop student in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective domain.” Specific learning outcomes are as follows: PLO1 Integrate knowledge from the humanities, natural and behavioral / social sciences with the current practice of respiratory care. PLO2 Know, apply and analyze the principles and concepts of respiratory care to function in the health care setting. PLO3 Use current professional standards including clinical practice guidelines and evidence-based medicine in respiratory care. PLO4 Perform clinical procedures and modalities to practice as a competent respiratory therapist.
PLO5 Utilize current respiratory care technology effectively and efficiently. PLO6 Demonstrate the characteristics, traits and qualities of a professional respiratory therapist. PLO7 Demonstrate clarity and accuracy in oral and written communications. PLO8 Function as an effective health care team member by collaborating with other health care providers and consumers in promoting the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities.

Academic Criteria for Admission, Progression, and Retention Admission to the Respiratory Care Program is selective and competitive. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. All applicants are considered on a space-available basis using a holistic review of academic achievement, science preparedness, and professional attributes. Program data demonstrate improved retention and credentialing success among students with stronger academic preparation, particularly in the sciences, and this is reflected in the program’ s admissions considerations.
First-Time Freshman Applicants( High School Students)
First-time freshman applicants must present a minimum cumulative grade point average( GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and must have successfully completed at least one college-preparatory laboratory science course( e. g.: biology, chemistry, physics, or anatomy and physiology). Applicants must submit official high school transcripts and one letter of recommendation attesting to academic ability and professional character and must complete an interview with the Program Director.
Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating strong performance in science coursework and overall readiness for the rigor of the program.
Internal Transfer Applicants( Change of Major)
Students seeking to transfer into the program from within the University must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and must have earned a grade of“ C” or higher( C- is not acceptable) in all prerequisite coursework. Students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing within the University and must complete an interview with the Program Director.
Preference will be given to applicants with a math / science GPA of 3.2 or higher and no repeated prerequisite science courses.
