15 Years of Inclusive Adventure
Celebrating Milestones at Adventure TEAM Challenge: New York
From June 4 – 6, 2025, World TEAM Sports partnered with The Center for Discovery and the Dolber Family Foundation to host the 15th annual Adventure TEAM Challenge: NY, a powerful milestone in inclusive programming.
Set on The Center for Discovery’ s Catskills campus, the three-day experience brought together residents, staff, and volunteers for a weekend defined by resilience, teamwork, and the spirit of adventure. In 2025, eleven residents with profound physical and cognitive challenges— including individuals with significant medical fragilities— participated in ATC: NY for the very first time. Their involvement reflected years of thoughtful innovation in adaptive sports and individualized support.
As the weekend unfolded, residents joined teams for inclusive field games designed to ensure every participant could engage fully.
A highlight of the weekend was the addition of adaptive swimming, offering many residents the opportunity to experience the pool for the very first time. The sense of calm, confidence, and accomplishment was unmistakable.
“ Witnessing the camaraderie, determination, and shared joy among WTS staff, our residents, and TCFD staff is incredibly moving and inspiring,” said Dr. Theresa Hamlin, President and CEO of The Center for Discovery.“ And yes, the pool was a hit— especially with World TEAM’ s enthusiastic participation!”
The weekend concluded at Morningside Park with the signature regatta. Using secure sling systems, trained staff gently transferred residents into adaptive boats for a scenic cruise around the lake. Smiles stretched wide across the water— an enduring image of finding joy in achieving goals never thought possible.
Adventure TEAM Challenge remains one of World TEAM’ s most meaningful programs, deepening appreciation for personalized care, expanding adaptive possibilities, and strengthening partnerships that make life-changing experiences a reality.
