Given the ongoing recruitment challenges in the healthcare industry, these findings are not surprising. They highlight the need for organizations to develop targeted strategies to attract younger talent into medical staff services roles.
A lack of awareness, limited career visibility, and a general preference for patient-facing roles may be contributing to low interest among younger professionals.
Additionally, the perception that medical staff services work is repetitive or less dynamic than other healthcare careers may be deterring potential candidates. Many current MSPs share a common story. They only discovered the profession by chance, often“ falling into it” rather than actively pursuing it.
To build a sustainable workforce, the industry must invest in increasing visibility, clarifying career pathways, and communicating the vital, impactful role MSPs play in healthcare operations.
