2025 Trends in Med Staff Credentialing Report | Page 3

Overview

The healthcare industry is evolving with the emergence of new technologies, shifting regulatory and operational demands, and a growing emphasis on quality.
Concurrently, the provider credentialing function is undergoing its own transformation. Advancements in digital platforms, automation, and secure datasharing technologies are changing the credentialing process, helping to improve both the efficiency and accuracy of how it is done.
To help further optimize credentialing processes, it is essential to analyze key trends and challenges that medical services professionals( MSPs) and providers face in their efforts to provide quality patient care and uphold regulatory standards.
We discovered that while most MSPs are generally satisfied with current workflows, there is widespread recognition of the value that modern tools and technologies can bring to improve efficiency and outcomes.

94 % of respondents reported some level of satisfaction with their organization’ s credentialing and privileging processes

Overall provider satisfaction remains strong at 88 % in 2025, which is only one percentage point lower than what was reported in 2024. However, the percentage of providers who reported that they were“ extremely satisfied” increased from 10 % to 15 % year-over-year.
HealthStream conducted its ninth annual report on medical staff credentialing, capturing insights on shifting priorities and emerging trends while offering a forward-looking perspective on the evolving role of credentialing professionals.
Recognized as an industry benchmark, the report draws on survey responses from a broad set of 664 professionals engaged in medical staff credentialing and privileging.
The rate at which organizations integrate credentialing data with other electronic systems varies, according to the survey. There is significant opportunity for integration with physician scheduling solutions, including provider and on-call scheduling. Only 11 % of medical staff services leaders reported this integration as fully implemented. Meanwhile, more than half of the respondents said they have integrated, or are integrating, their provider data with downstream systems like electronic medical records( EMRs), lab platforms, and billing applications.
