Advocating & Supporting Tourism in Fernie
Tourism Fernie works with local members and stakeholders on issues important to them, many in partnership with the Fernie Chamber of Commerce and the City of Fernie such as infrastructure, housing, labour, transportation, climate change, planning and economic development. Tourism Fernie also takes key issues to regional, provincial and national levels to be heard and now plays a greater role in finding regional and provincial solutions. For example, Jikke became chair of the BC DMO Association in 2025, an organization that represents all community DMOs across the province and advocates for key topics such as the MRDT, an essential tourism funding program. Members of Tourism Fernie can get more involved by engaging with staff or becoming a Board Member.

Partnered with the City to develop the new RDS in spring 2025 with key stakeholders.
Tourism Fernie allocated over $ 13,000 to support trail organizations in Fernie including the FTA.
Tourism Fernie brought together trail and recreation groups in the Elk Valley to discuss needs and opportunities.
Tourism Fernie works closely with the Ministry of Tourism on MRDT advocacy via the BCDMOA and TIABC.
As the new chair of the BCDMOA in August 2025, Jikke not only represents DMOs across BC but brings Fernie to the forefront of BC’ s tourism eco-system.
