ROC-ing out all year long
The roof at the ROC( Recreation Outdoor Center) allows the venue to host events like concerts and festivals during the spring, summer and fall. And in the winter, the ice rink keeps residents busy during Minnesota’ s cold period. Disco Ball Ice Skating launched this year, with rental skates and a warm fire aglow under the disco ball. The facility has even hosted Minnesota Wild professional hockey practices in the winter and events as breakdance battles and open roller skating in the warmer season.
The facility can be used for open public skating, broomball and other skating events. Public skating is available from early November to mid-March when the weather permits.
The built-in bleachers at the ROC contain seats for about 450 people, making it an attractive venue for concerts. In 2025, the Okee Dokee Brothers performed folksy family friendly tunes under the early summer sun.
Turf in spring months accommodates practices for baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse, and after the turf is removed, the concrete surface can provide space for events that range from Vintage flea markets and cultural festivals to graduation parties and movie screenings.
Since opening in late 2016, the facility has hosted a naturalization ceremony for new U. S. citizens, frequent concerts,
cultural dances, ice bowling, a spring egg hunt, a ROCtoberfest event and many other activities. The Latin Expo Fair, the Slavic Festival and Juneteenth celebrations continue to bring St. Louis Park residents of different cultures together.
One of the favorites each fall is the St. Louis Park Art Fair at the ROC, which features local artists and creators along with food trucks, a coffee bar, live music, art demonstrations, exhibits and community art projects, according to a city description. To learn more, visit slpfota. org / artfair.
The St. Louis Park Hockey Association has a priority in renting ice time in the winter, according to its agreement with the city. When the association has not reserved time, other groups can rent the facility. When no one is renting the ice, the arena is open to the public.
Depending on the time of year, the ROC offers turf rental, dry floor rent and ice arena rental. It can be rented by calling 952-924-2540. It measures 200 feet by 85 feet and can accommodate up to 700 people when the concrete floor is exposed from mid-May to mid-October.
Otherwise, there is enough bleacher seating for 450 people. Rental of the facility, when it contains turf, is also available. Visit stlouisparkmn. gov / ROC for current rental rates and more information.
