Fire department keeps the Park safe

For more than 100 years, the St. Louis Park Fire Department has been part of the St. Louis Park community, delivering high-quality fire protection and emergency medical services.
As emergency responders, the fire department handles a wide variety of crises and emergencies. Firefighters are constantly training to keep their skills up to date. They are prepared to provide fire suppression, emergency medical call response, hazardous materials response, water and ice rescue, automobile extrication and confined space, rope, trench or collapse rescue.
This year welcomed a new fire chief to the Park, Peter Hanlin. A seasoned professional with a Bachelor’ s degree in fire science and a Master’ s in public administration, Hanlin joined the St. Louis Park team in February 2025.
The department’ s responsibilities have evolved. In addition to emergency response, firefighters investigate the causes of fires, provide fire safety inspections, work to lessen the impacts of severe weather and are experts in emergency preparedness.
Other services the fire department provides include public education; water and ice rescue; medicine disposal bags; confined space, rope, trench and collapse rescue; automobile extrication; severe weather mitigation; car seat inspections;
emergency preparedness; fire protection advice; car seat safety inspections; station tours and ride-along opportunities.
When it comes to public safety, education is key in preventing danger before it happens. The fire station’ s annual open house invited families from near and far to get up close to fire engines, learn safety skills like stop, drop and roll, meet their local firefighters, put out controlled fires and grab a hotdog, too.
The St. Louis Park Fire Department operates out of two stations. Fire Station One, 3750 Wooddale Ave. S., includes a memorial to three St. Louis Park firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty. Fire Station Two is located at 2262 Louisiana Ave.
Additionally, the fire department recognizes the important role it plays in the overall health of the community. The Community Health Alliance offers a straightforward solution to an enduring problem: connecting residents with the right solution at the right time to meet their immediate medical support needs.
The department’ s non-emergency phone number is 952- 924-2618. For emergencies, call 911. Visit stlouisparkmngov / fire for more information.
