Libraries promote lifelong learning
The St. Croix Valley public libraries offer extensive services for the region, from books and electronic resources, meeting spaces, storytimes, teen activities, art galleries, and more.
The Stillwater Public Library was established in 1897. The original building was constructed in 1902 on the current site with funds from Andrew Carnegie. Two additions doubled the floor space in 1973 with support from the Margaret Rivers Foundation. The building was renovated in 1987 and 2006 and got a new roof in 2022.
Stillwater Public Library has an entire room dedicated to the history of the valley, called the St. Croix Collection, with historic photographs, news archives, genealogy resources and more.

The Bayport Public Library was formally established in 1913. First as a room in the primary school built in 1919, then in the village hall, the former post office, and in 1990, into the former White Pine Inn.
Lake Elmo Public Library is one of seven branches of the greater Washington County library system and enjoys many shared services. It offers residents many resources and hosts numerous community events.
The Washington County Library has seven branch locations and is affiliated with the libraries in Stillwater and Bayport. It also supports the Washington County Law Library in the County Courthouse. The Law Library is open to the public and offers legal reference resources.
