Princeton Municipal Airport
The Princeton Municipal Airport is home to approximately 50 aircraft used for business , teaching , recreation and sport . The airport serves a population in excess of 100,000 people in East Central Minnesota .
The general aviation airport is located in the southwest corner of the city with convenient access to Highway 169 . The runway has medium intensity edge lights with an asphalt surface 3,900 feet in length , and 14 aircraft tie downs are available .
Pilots and those in training at one of the local flight schools will find a modern airport that makes visits safe , efficient and affordable .
The Runway End Identification Lights and Precision Approach Path Indicator lights assist pilots in safe takeoffs and landings .
The airport is also a base for North Memorial Health Air Care , which owns and operates nine Agusta 109 helicopters , the fastest civilian helicopter on the market , which can reach speeds of 180 mph . Princeton is one of seven such medical helicopter bases in Minnesota and Wisconsin .
The 3,900-foot , paved , lighted runway has a parallel taxiway , airplane tie-downs , self-service fuel station , pilot lounge and courtesy car for the hungry pilot / crew in search of a good meal and hotel to stay for the night .
The airport is also home to a number of aviation businesses ready to meet a range of needs .
Originally built in the 1950s with a grass runway , the airport was relocated to its current location in the 1980s to accommodate a growing business demand . The airport ’ s hard surfaces have been maintained over the years and modernized to keep the surfaces and conveniences in top condition like the GPS instrument approach .
The airport has a large number of T-hangars , more than 20 regular hangars and lots are available for additional hangar construction . The lots are owned by the Municipal Airport and leased to the owners of the hangers , as is the FAA model at airports across the county .
The airport is also home to Flight Expo , Inc ., a growing youth program promoting aviation through education and preservation in a hands-on environment . The airport is open 24 hours a day , seven days a week and year-round .
