Hopkins Schools prepares students for the future

Hopkins Public Schools lives by the strategic plan behind Vision 2031, a vision of innovation that seeks to both reimagine education and hones in on the core belief that every student deserves a brilliant future. While what the real working world looks like is always changing, the plan is the result of several levels of feedback that focus on offering students a world-class education and preparing them for life beyond school walls.
Those lives may involve four-year colleges, trade schools or moving straight into the workforce. Hopkins serves to prepare students for all potential walks of life.
The school district serves the city of Hopkins, more than half of Minnetonka, approximately half of Golden Valley and portions of Eden Prairie, Edina, Plymouth and St. Louis Park. Student languages range across 61 home languages, with the four most common languages being English, Somali, Spanish and Hmong. Around 7,100 students occupy the district, including 51 % students of color.
The district’ s secondary facilities – Hopkins High School, Hopkins North Middle School and Hopkins West Middle School – all reside in Minnetonka.
The district’ s elementary schools include Meadowbrook in Golden Valley; Alice Smith and Eisenhower in Hopkins; and Gatewood, Glen Lake and L. H. Tanglen in Minnetonka. Also within the district is Harley Hopkins Family Center in Hopkins, the core of the district’ s early childhood programs.
The high school campus is also home to North Middle School and L. H. Tanglen Elementary, as well as the Royals Athletic Center, a community facility open to the public that features five basketball courts, an indoor running track and
fitness and weight training facilities.
XinXing Academy, a magnet Chinese immersion program, and the Juntos Spanish immersion program, both operate within Eisenhower Elementary. XinXing offers Chinese immersion in grades K-5 and has expanded to junior high with the XinXing @ West program. All core subject matter is taught in Mandarin Chinese for the full day in kindergarten through grade 2.
Juntos offers children the opportunity to develop proficiency in a second language during their elementary years. In kindergarten, 90 % of instruction is in Spanish and 10 % is in English.
Hopkins North Middle School and West Junior High are International Baccalaureate World Schools. Both Gatewood and Eisenhower elementaries are also candidate schools for the program. The IB program allows all students to participate in a rigorous curriculum that encourages them to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers while earning college credit.
VirtualEDU, the virtual leg of the Hopkins School District which started during the pandemic, offers a virtual option for district students 3-12. Students can choose between a fully-online experience or a blended model, offered grades 6-12, which features a mix of online courses and in-person learning at Hopkins East, located in Golden Valley. The blended model stands alone as the only school offering a blended experience in the state.
The Hopkins Public Schools district headquarters is located at 1001 Highway 7, Hopkins. To learn more about the school district, visit hopkinsschools. org or call 952-988-4000.
