PRESENTING EMILY HOWARD MEYER AS RABBI AND TEACHER IN ISRAEL
Presented by Cantor Lois Kittner
Emily Meyer and I met through the Women Cantors’ Network. We collaborated extensively on the WCN 2019 Annual Conference which my congregation, at the time, hosted.
Former WCN Board member and newsletter editor, one of three editors of the WCN publication, the Kol Isha Songbook, Emily is my go-to transcriber for musical compositions.
Owner of the extraordinarily important Jewish music resource website,“ Oy Songs!” and owner of Composer Girl Publications, Emily is artist, potter, weaver, woodworker, composer, singer, instrumentalist, arranger, musician, Cantorial Soloist, Chaplain, collaborator, producer, conductor, speaker, teacher, and student. Emily is also an amazing wife and mother.
I am blessed to call her my friend.
If you are lucky enough to be in Emily’ s presence you will understand when I say that it is electric. Her focus, her depth of feeling, and respect are tangible. Emily is a terrific listener. It feels special to be heard by Emily Meyer.
And, my friend, my colleague, my teacher, Emily Meyer, gets the job done. No matter what that job is!
In 2021, when the WCN Board determined that safer was better than sorry, Emily Meyer was one of the co-chairs for our annual conference, catapulting it into a virtual event with, what I am now convinced is, her hidden magic wand.“ Pivot” was one of the buzzwords of the pandemic. Emily did it with enthusiasm, efficiency, seriousness of purpose, humor, style, and grace.
I know, in the beginning, Emily had thought she would pursue Cantorial semikhah, but she found that she absolutely LOVES rabbinic literature and wanted to continue her Talmud and Codes study. Selfawareness and courage to change course are two of her hallmarks. The Jewish people are now blessed with an exceptionally well-trained Rabbi, who can sing and daven beautifully.
Emily is one-of-a-kind, which is why being educated at the Academy for Jewish Religion was a perfect fit. Emily and I both appreciate the love, respect, and customized encouragement we received as AJR seminarians.
It is with great pride and deep respect that I present Rabbi Emily Meyer.
