Q & A with Manila Lion Hudson Harrison. By: Easton Fletcher
1. Talk about the upcoming football season and what goals you have set for yourself as an individual player and as a team. Missing the playoffs last year still hurts so coming into my senior year the goal is clear, we have got to make the playoffs. It’ s no doubt that the 3a-3 conference is the hardest conference in the classification. We also only have four home games, so we have to take advantage of what little home field advantage we have. Our goal as a team this year is to protect home turf. We need three conference wins to make the playoffs, and we can get all 3 of them at home. My personal goals this season are to help my team make the playoffs, be all state, and have greater than 1000 yards receiving.
2. Who is someone that you have played with from your past in any sport that you learned from and looked up to and why? The teammate I learned the most from was Costner Smith. He showed me that there were other ways to contribute to the game besides scoring the basketball. He didn’ t score more than 10 points in a game, but he was one of the most valuable guys on the floor at all times. He taught me what it took to win games as a role player.
3. You are a multi-sport athlete. Discuss what it’ s like to play so many sports and how you prepare for each season. I love all three sports too much to quit any of them to just focus on one. I’ ll have five to six hours of practice four days a week during the summer, but it’ s worth every minute of it. Having three different sports to prepare for keeps me always motivated to improve for the next season. In terms of preparing for each individual sport, playing basketball over the summer keeps me in shape for football season. During football season I will go to the basketball gym two to three times a week so I’ m prepared for basketball season. Then during basketball season, I will throw and hit on weekends to prepare for baseball season.
4. You are a senior this year. What has it been like playing at Manila? What experiences standout the most and what have been some of your favorite moments? Manila has been a great school to me. I’ ve had some of the best teammates and coaches I could ask for. My favorite memory for football was my first high school touchdown against EPC my sophomore year. My favorite basketball memory was when
