Wayzata Schools: Excellence in education

Wayzata Public Schools serves approximately 13,000 students throughout 38 square miles of the growing western suburbs.
The district continues to attract families looking to send their children to one of nine elementary schools, three middle schools, an early learning school, a transition school or Wayzata High School, which is the largest high school in Minnesota.
Wayzata Schools serves all or part of Corcoran, Maple Grove, Medicine Lake, Medina, Minnetonka, Orono, Plymouth and Wayzata. The district also offers a range of community education classes, which include everything from cooking to GED preparation to social networking.
The district is led by a seven-member school board and Superintendent Chace Anderson. School board members are elected to four-year terms on an at-large basis. Milind Sohoni was named chair of the board in 2024 and helped welcome new board members Paras Bhende, Valentina Eyres and Dan Ginestra along with Sheila Prior, who initially won a seat during a special election in 2022. They joined board members Sarah Johansen and Heidi Kader.
Wayzata Schools continues with efforts to meet the needs of the growing student population. As part of the November 2017 referendum, voters approved the construction of the district’ s ninth elementary school, North Woods Elementary. The school opened to more than 560 students in fall 2019, just northwest of Wayzata High School. The school is similar in size to Meadow Ridge Elementary, which opened in 2016.
In order to meet administrative needs, Wayzata Schools purchased a new district building in the winter of 2023 that offers meeting and office space for administrators and also a place for parents and teachers to access their educational needs.
More than 10 school district departments are stationed at the office, including the superintendent’ s office, finance, human resources, teaching and learning, equity and inclusion, student support services and more.
Wayzata Public Schools is nationally recognized for its quality educational programs that produce a high percentage of college-bound graduates each year.
Athletics are also a highlight in the district. High school sports fans can watch the Wayzata Trojans compete in the Lake Conference along with Eden Prairie, Edina, Buffalo, Hopkins, St. Michael-Albertville and Minnetonka. The 2024- 2025 school year proved to be a successful year for athletics and academics alike as the Trojan’ s boys basketball team took home the state championship, DECA qualified in the state competition to take 57 of their members to the International Conference in Orlando, Florida, and the table tennis team took the state championship and the quiz bowl team won state for the fourth year in a row.
