COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT | 2025 IMPACT REPORT 29
METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON AIRPORTS AUTHORITY
Community Giving and Employee Engagement
The Airports Authority’ s charitable giving and employee volunteer programs refl ect a strong commitment to supporting the communities we serve across the National Capital Region. Through coordinated efforts led by employees and community partnerships, the Airports Authority continues to respond to local needs with timely, meaningful support that strengthens families and enhances community well-being.
This year’ s employee-led backpack and school supplies drive was a strong example of that commitment in action. Airports Authority employees donated more than 100 backpacks and essential school supply items, including pens, pencils, notebooks, binders, crayons, markers and highlighters. All donations were provided to Prince George’ s County Public Schools in Maryland to support students as they prepared for the new school year, helping ensure greater access to the tools needed for academic success.
Employees also volunteered their time at the Arlington Food Assistance Center, a local nonprofi t supporting families experiencing food insecurity. Volunteers helped sort and package fresh produce into family sized portions for distribution. This effort supported the center’ s work to provide nutritious food to thousands of households each month across Arlington County, Virginia.
In addition, Airports Authority employees supported the DCA pantry initiative for TSA and FAA employees through substantial in-kind donations and volunteer service during the federal government shutdown. Over the course of several weeks, more than 4,000 food, hygiene and toiletry items were collected and distributed to TSA and FAA employees at Reagan National Airport. Nearly 200 non-perishable food boxes, along with thousands of additional donated items from Airports Authority staff and the broader community, provided a constant supply of essential supplies throughout the shutdown period. Thanks to these efforts, the pantry remained well-stocked and able to serve thousands of individuals during a challenging period.
Community Engagement is most meaningful when it refl ects the values of the people behind the organization. Through employee volunteerism, charitable giving and community partnerships, our workforce continues to demonstrate a shared commitment to supporting families, responding to community needs, and creating a positive impact across the National Capital Region.
