Sustainability in Action: A Global Perspective
As part of our commitment to advancing a culture of sustainable administration, the Airports Authority actively engages with industry leaders, government partners and research institutions to stay at the forefront of emerging trends, technologies and best practices in aviation sustainability. Through participation in global conferences, regional forums and collaborative workshops, the Airports Authority contributes to and benefi ts from the collective knowledge shaping the future of sustainable aviation.
In March 2025, the Airports Authority attended the Airports @ Work Conference in Houston, Texas. Hosted by the American Association of Airport Executives, this event convened airport professionals from across North America to share operational best practices and innovations. Sessions highlighted evolving approaches to workforce development, asset management and the integration of sustainability into daily airport operations and core business functions.
The Airports Authority further strengthened its focus on energy performance and resilience through participation in the Airport Energy Management Symposium in Denver, Colorado, in December 2025. This forum brought together airport sustainability and facilities leaders to explore strategies for optimizing energy use across complex airport systems. In April and May 2025, the Airports Authority participated in the Airport Energy Preparedness Airport Cooperative Research Program Insight Event. The event focused on strengthening airport energy resilience, including grid reliability, backup power strategies and preparing for increased electricity demand driven by electrifi cation and sustainable aviation fuels. Regionally, the Airports Authority remained engaged with key stakeholders through participation in multiple events hosted by the Greater Washington Region Clean Cities Coalition. Events included the Low Carbon Fuels for Airports in the DMV( D. C., Maryland, Virginia) Aviation Roundtable in June 2025 and the Clean Energy and Transportation Conference in October 2025.
The Airports Authority also played an active role in local sustainability dialogue through the Committee for Dulles sustainable infrastructure breakfast in September 2025. During the breakfast event, the Authority participated in a panel discussion highlighting progress on the Dulles solar energy project and broader sustainability initiatives. The panel explored regional opportunities and challenges related to resilience, clean energy deployment and infrastructure development.
On the global stage, the Airports Authority attended the Airports Council International( ACI) World Annual Conference in Toronto, Ontario, in October 2025. Hosted by Airports Council International, this premier event convenes airport executives, policymakers and thought leaders from around the world. The 2025 conference featured discussions on decarbonization, airport electrifi cation, sustainable aviation fuels, resilience planning and emerging technologies such as advanced air mobility. The event provided valuable insights to help guide the Airports Authority’ s long-term strategy.
