COMMUNITY GUIDE | 2025-26

A great place to live by many measures

In 2023, the city of Eagan was named the 11th best place for families to live in the United States by Fortune Magazine.
The review cited that the city has abundant parks, a strong education system, housing affordability, and is a great place for families, but it’ s also fantastic for people who love to shop, explore new restaurants, enjoy the arts, volunteer, start and build a career, find a fulfillment in retirement, and much more.
Sun Thisweek’ s Community Guide aims to touch on all of the amazing facets that make Eagan an ideal place to live for people in all stages of life and a draw for visitors throughout the region and the world.
Don’ t take our word for it, Fortune Magazine’ s Best Places to Live for Families analyzed nearly 1,900 cities across the country considering assets like health care, education, resources for older adults, affordability, walkability and the city’ s well-being index.
When they swirled that all together they found what Eagan residents already know that the city is safe, clean, has strong neighborhoods, engages all ages in a wide range of outlets, and has top notch city, county and school resources.
“ Eagan is a city full of places and spaces to play, discover, create, connect, and grow thanks to our residents, businesses and nonprofits,” Eagan Mayor Mike Maguire said when the Fortune Magazine distinction was announced.
“ Eagan values green space and access to parks and trails. Every resident lives within one mile of a park or pier on water, and we have over 162 miles of trails that connect to over 1,400 acres of parkland. Eagan also values inclusion and providing places, spaces, top-notch schools, and opportunities for everyone. This is what makes us one the most family-friendly cities in America,” Maguire said.
