Police, fire departments keep city safe

The Eagan Police Department consists of 78 full-time sworn officers and 18 full- and part-time non-sworn personnel under the direction of Police Chief Roger New, who is retiring in 2025.
The department offers many crime prevention programs and safety related services, including a Citizens Academy, Senior Safety Academy, Youth Leadership Academy, Neighborhood Watch and Emergency Preparedness education.
The Eagan Police Department actively recruits Neighborhood Watch Groups. Group requirements are to meet at least twice a year, appoint a block captain and have at least 50 % neighborhood participation. For more information, contact the Crime Prevention Unit at 651-675-5700.
Eagan Police recently started the SafeCam program, which allows citizens to voluntarily register their security camera locations and voluntarily provide footage to police when an incident has occurred in the area.
More information is at 651-675-5700 or cityofeagan. com / police or the Police Department’ s social media feeds. The Eagan Fire Department consists of 40 full-time firefighters operating out of three fire stations strategically located throughout the city. The career staff is divided into three different shifts to provide 24-hour coverage. Eagan firefighters are licensed by the state of Minnesota, certified Emergency Medical Technicians( EMTs), and certified Fire Inspectors.
The headquarters for the department is at the Fire Safety
Center / Station 2 at 1001 Station Trail. Fire Station No. 1 is located at 4200 Blackhawk Road. Fire Station No. 4 is located at 4200 Dodd Road, as equipment at Station No. 3 was moved to the location in 2014.
Eagan’ s all-volunteer Fire Department started in 1963. In 2017, a professional staffing study was conducted that suggested the department transition to a career-staffed department, away from a volunteer department. The city completed the transition on Dec. 31, 2021.
The Fire Department responds to the approximately 6,000 calls annually with the private ambulance service, which the city says frees police officers to respond to police-related calls.
