By Julie Loftis, JFS Marketing Specialist
On June 8, more than 300 guests“ laughed and gave” at Jewish Family Services’( JFS) most successful Live Laugh Give comedy fundraising event yet. This year, honorees Larry and Dale Polsky were recognized for their many contributions to both the Jewish and the greater Charlotte community. The event welcomed headliner Elon Gold, who did not disappoint with his one-liners and jokes.
During the evening, Howard Olshansky, JFS executive director, shared with the community how crucial donations have become due to recent cuts in government grants and services. We were overwhelmed by the generosity shown through raffle sales, a live auction, and“ Call to the Heart.” Howard remarked,“ We are so moved that once again our community opened their hearts to help JFS secure the resources required to meet the growing needs of our community.”
Olshansky shared that since

“ The mission and work of JFS holds a special place in our family and we want to inspire others to support JFS and to lead by actions. So many of JFS’ clients struggle with emotional health, the challenges of aging, food and financial insecurity, and domestic violence. JFS continues to be the source of emotional healing in times of crisis. We ' re proud to support an organization that helps Jewish people in need, and we are grateful for the leadership provided by Howard Olshansky and his very capable team.”

the first year of this event, JFS services have expanded by over 60 % in response to our community’ s growing needs. In particular, he addressed the mental health crisis currently affecting our youth, especially in light of the rise in antisemitism in schools and on college campuses. He indicated that funds raised from this year’ s event will support the development of a mental health plan for children and youth in our community— one designed to reach those experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety.
We are grateful to our cochairs, Blair Goldsmith and Kevin Levine, and to the generosity of our sponsors, led by The Leon Levine Foundation, our presenting sponsor, and Stuart and Teresa Singer, our headliner sponsors. The evening began with a sponsor reception featuring a meet-and-greet with Elon Gold and concluded with a dessert reception underwritten by Pinnacle Financial Partners.
Funds raised from Live Laugh Give Comedy Night, the annual Family to Family Campaign beginning in September, and generous year-round donations help JFS sustain the vital services our community depends on. This year’ s Live Laugh Give surpassed expectations thanks to the overwhelming support from our community.
