DISCIPLINARY ACTION REVIEW
appropriately disciplined. The basic premise of the anti-bullying and harassment policy is to ensure that all students, faculty, and staff are treated with dignity and respect.
Definitions:
• Conflict is not bullying. Not all mean or hurtful language / behavior is bullying. Conflict occurs when individuals have equal power. Conflict often happens occasionally and accidentally. There is an equal emotional reaction between the participants and neither is seeking power or attention. Finally, both participants feel remorse and are working towards resolving the problem.
• Bullying is intentional harm-doing where a negative action is repeated over time, and there is an imbalance of power.
• Some harm-doing may be so severe that it may be classified as bullying even though the behavior was not repeated.
• Cyber-bullying is bullying, but with the willful and repeated harm inflicted through the use of computers, mobile phones, and other electronic devices.
• Although cyber-bullying may occur off campus and outside of the school hours, it harms students while they are at school; therefore, CPA will investigate, address, and consequence instances of cyber-bullying.
• Harassment includes unwanted and unwelcomed behavior related to sex, race, religion, national origin, disability, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and / or other actual or perceived characteristics of students that harms the recipient or makes the recipient feel afraid, embarrassed, helpless or angry, or that affects the recipient in such a harmful way that he / she cannot navigate school effectively.

RETALIATION PROHIBITED
CPA prohibits retaliation against any individual who reports perceived violations of this policy or participates in an investigation of such reports. Retaliation is a serious violation of this policy and, like the underlying conduct itself, will subject an individual to disciplinary action.
STUDENT INVESTIGATIONS OR ARRESTS
If a student is arrested, is under criminal investigation for an alleged crime, or becomes aware of a warrant for his or her arrest, the student or parent is responsible to report the matter to a division head within 24 hours of the event. A student who is arrested, is under criminal investigation for an alleged crime, or for whom an arrest warrant has been issued, may be suspended, pending investigation and resolution of relevant concerns. The student and / or parent is responsible to monitor relevant issues to their full resolution and to keep the division head informed of all related matters.
DISCIPLINARY ACTION REVIEW
In cases of expulsion, if a parent or guardian disagrees with the action taken by the Academy, parent( s) or guardian may submit a written request to the head of school for review by board of trustees or a committee thereof. The Head of School has the final authority to uphold or amend an expulsion decision.
