STAMFORD
Stamford is located near the southwestern corner of Vermont, on the Massachusetts state line.
The town has just over 800 residents.
Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon recently built a home in Stamford.
Stamford is one of the oldest of the New Hampshire Grants given by Benning Wentworth.
SUNDERLAND
The town lies north of Arlington and south of Manchester. A river( the Batten Kill) runs through it.
Born in Africa, enslaved, then freed, Lucy Terry Prince was an early Black settler and a poet.
Ethan Allen and his enterprising younger brother Ira( founder of the University of Vermont) built one of the first homes in Sunderland, now the Ira Allen House( a country inn) right on Route 7A.
Sunderland and Arlington are popular launching sites for river adventures. Vermont River Runners rents canoes, kayaks, and tubes, and offers pickup service.
