Program Description: With GMercyU ' s accredited Accounting Program, you will gain a solid background in accounting principles, taxes, auditing, finance, and business theory. If you want to build a career as a Certified Public Accountant( CPA) or put your accounting chops to work in the business world, consider our bachelor’ s in accounting with a CPA track or our accelerated 4 + 1 MBA option.
Whatever your career goals, our program and dedicated faculty will help you achieve them. In fact, in 2018, GMercyU ' s high CPA exam pass rate ranked the program 16th in the nation for similar-sized accounting schools, according to the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy. And, for the past several years, 100 % of students in the CPA track have landed jobs after graduation, even during the 2020 pandemic. Students should meet with their advisor in their junior year to apply to the 4 + 1 program.
Preparation for Professional Licensure: The CPA track helps to prepare students to sit for the CPA exam after the required work experience has been met.
Program Student Learning Outcomes: PLO1 The ability to prepare written business communications. PLO2 Business students will apply knowledge and skills to make appropriate business decisions. PLO3 Students will apply ethical and moral decision-making principles to business situations. PLO4 Students will display appropriate quantitative problem-solving abilities in the context of business problems. PLO5 Students will demonstrate the ability to use appropriate technological skills required for all business professionals. PLO6 Students will demonstrate the ability to find, evaluate, and apply sources of information relevant to business issues and situations. PLO7 Students will prepare, present, and interpret financial statements using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles( GAAP). PLO8 Students will demonstrate proficiency with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. PLO9 Students will demonstrate proficiency with taxation issues, returns, and planning. PLO10 Students will demonstrate proficiency with measures used to evaluate and manage businesses.
Experiential Learning: Students are required to engage in an internship, which allows them to put theory into practice, observe professionals engaging their field of study, hone their skills under the supervision of seasoned professionals, network within their chosen field, and gain valuable experience. Students should consult with their academic advisor before they register for the internship. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from off-campus experiential learning opportunities.
