This course examines the basic legal concepts common to higher education administrators as viewed through the lens of an increasingly diverse college environment. Topics include the history and governance of higher education law, basic legal concepts, and legal issues as they apply in higher education. Current case law and case studies will be used to elucidate how institutional policies and practices can support an inclusive educational environment.

School Law & Policy in Special Ed
Field experience in post-secondary administrative services, including support services such as enrollment management, student affairs, financial aid, human resources, communications and public relations, information technology, plant management, institutional advancement, and fiscal management. The practicum will be individualized to meet the needs and interests of each student. EdD students only. Through a review of research and local practices, this course offers an indepth study, analysis, and discussion of intervention programs and outcomes for students with special needs. Students will examine the organization and administration of special education programs with emphasis on the role of the special education leader within the local agency. A review of the development, implementation, and evaluation of effective program designs will prepare students to make recommendations for future practice. Special education law, policy, and regulation are studied as the framework for providing services for all students, with particular consideration of current and predicted trends in law affecting children with disabilities( for both the PK-12 School / School District concentration and the Special Education concentration).
