By pre-arrangement with the Coordinator of Special Education, a student may be awarded up to three academic credits for participation in activities and completing related research. This experience allows students who have demonstrated competencies in other required courses to enhance their professional knowledge and skills on an advanced level. |

Role of Sport in Society |
This course is an analysis of the social relations within the institution of sport and designed to acquaint students with the relationship between sport and the society in which it is embedded. Students will examine the social forces that shape the sport industry in the United States and internationally and the influence the sport industry has on society. Students will critically examine common understandings of sport from economic, historical, political, and sociological perspectives. Topics include international cultures in sport, violence and deviant behavior in sport, social stratification in sport, sport education, and societal beliefs, traditions, customs, and the sport subculture. The demonstration of interpersonal and intrapersonal skills will be emphasized throughout the course. |
