This course will provide students will a broad overview of the field of public health in the United States and around the globe. Students will understand the purpose and breadth of public health and explore the impact it has on their own and others ' lives. In addition, students will also be introduced to the people and organizations who do the work of public health and the challenges they face.

Health Behavior and Health Education
Public Health Policy and Advocacy
Community Needs and Capicty Assessment
This course will examine the relationship between behavior and health and explore the many factors that affect health behaviors including the social determinants. Health behavior theories will be explored to understand underlying causes of individual and community behavior. Students will explore strategies for affecting and changing behavior as a strategy for protecting or promoting health.
In this course, students will examine the role of policy in health and healthcare, comparing systems of healthcare in the US and other countries. Students will learn strategies to influence health policy and act as advocates for public health.
Students will learn how to identify assets and needs in a community to facilitate the development of health education interventions appropriate for specific communities. Strategies for engaging community stakeholders and developing partnerships will be addressed.

Environmental Health
Students will learn about the relationship between the physical environment
and human health, and how environmental exposures impact communities.
Strategies for affecting environmental health will be explored.
