EXS-360
EXS-370
First Aid and Athletic Training Strength Training and Conditioning experience using laboratory equipment such as metabolic carts and heart rate monitors to assess physiological parameters during physical activity. Corequisite: EXS 350: Physiology of Exercise
This course provides foundational knowledge in first aid and the basics of athletic training. Students will learn to recognize, evaluate, and manage common sports-related injuries and medical emergencies. Topics include CPR, wound care, injury prevention strategies, and rehabilitation techniques. The course also covers the ethical and legal considerations in athletic training. Practical skills are developed through simulations and hands-on practice, preparing students to respond effectively in emergencies.
This course explores the science and application of strength and conditioning principles for enhancing athletic performance. This course covers program design, periodization, resistance training techniques, plyometrics, and speed development. Students will learn to create tailored strength and conditioning programs for various populations, considering factors such as age, sport-specific demands, and injury prevention. The role of nutrition in supporting training goals is also explored.
EXS-370L
This laboratory course provides hands-on application of principles covered in
the Strength Training and Conditioning course. Students will engage in
practical exercises focused on program design, exercise techniques, and
Strength Training and Conditioning Lab
movement assessments, emphasizing safe and effective training methods tailored for diverse populations.
EXS-390
Fitness Assessment
This course explores the principles and techniques used to evaluate physical
fitness components such as cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength,
flexibility, and body composition. Students will learn to administer a variety
of fitness tests and interpret the results to design personalized exercise
programs. The course emphasizes the importance of accurate assessment in
developing effective fitness plans and monitoring progress. Ethical
considerations and professional standards in fitness assessment are also
discussed
EXS-390L
Fitness Assessment Lab
This laboratory course provides practical experience in conducting fitness
assessments. Students will apply theoretical knowledge from the Fitness
Assessment course by performing tests on peers, analyzing data, and
providing feedback on fitness levels. The lab focuses on skill development in
using assessment tools such as skinfold calipers, spirometers, and heart rate
monitors. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, safety, and professionalism during
assessments. Co-requisite: EXS 390 fitness Assessment.
