Podcasting in journalism, publishing and promoting continues to grow. In this course, students will build upon the basic audio skills developed in prior courses to produce audience-targeted and technically competent podcasts. We will explore planning, recording, interviewing, editing, structure and storytelling along with technical concepts. Hosting, distribution and monetizing will also be covered. |

Video Production & Editing |
Students will learn video production in both the studio and in the field, with |
a focus on framing, lighting, microphone placement, composition, audio for |

video, and more. We will also cover post-production, editing strategies and |
||
story-telling. This is a hands-on course. Opportunity to earn YouTube |
||
Certification. |

COMD-304 |
Social Media Law & Ethics |
In many ways, regulations of digital and social media have been outpaced by |
the rate of their innovation. Lawmakers and ethicists address compelling |
||
issues such as cyberbullying, privacy rights, mental health impacts and |
||
intellectual property as they arise. Explore regulation and ethics related to |
||
free expression, privacy, and data collection from the perspectives of media |
||
professionals, content creators, audiences and college students. Recent |
||
cases such as Facebook ' s privacy breaches, Instagram ' s negative impact on |
||
the mental health of teen girls are integrated into the course. Online |
||
behavior such as revenge, defamation and attempts at regulation through |
||
social media community rules and employer policies are addressed. |

COMD-310 |
DigiCom Crew Production |
In this hands-on content creation course, students cover GMercyU events |
and issues with published video and audio content. Utilizing planning, |
||
interviewing, storytelling, production and post-production skills, students |
||
create a pre-professional portfolio of content. Pre-reqs: COMD301, |
||
COMD302 This course is repeatable up to 3 times for a total of 3 credits. |
