Academic Progress, Probation, and Program Dismissal: MSSLP students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade GPA of 3.0. Students whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 will be placed on academic probation. Academic probation is a period during which a student is permitted to improve academic performance that does not meet the standards of the MSSLP Program. To be removed from academic probation, the student must raise the cumulative grade point average to 3.0 or greater. Students placed on academic probation will be given until the end of the following semester to raise their cumulative GPA to 3.0 or better. Failure to raise the cumulative GPA to 3.0 or greater will result in a dismissal from the Program. If it is not possible for a student to raise the cumulative grade point average to 3.0 or greater due to mathematical impossibility, the student will be dismissed or have the option to withdraw from the Program.
MSSLP students may not earn more than two grades of“ C” in didactic or clinical classes during the entirety of their academic program. Any student receiving a grade of less than“ C”( including a grade of“ C-”), in a didactic or clinical class will be required to repeat the course the next time the course is offered, earn a grade of“ B” or better in the repeated course and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. As a result of a course failure, the student shall be placed on academic probation and decelerated into the next incoming MSSLP class. A student will have only one opportunity to repeat a failed course. Failure to retake and / or pass a failed course will result in a dismissal from the Program. A student with two or more overall course failures will be dismissed from the Program.
Withdrawal from Courses: Any withdrawal from didactic courses must be approved by the program director. Any withdrawal from clinical courses must approved by both the Director of Clinical Education and Program Director.
If course withdrawal is approved, the student must submit a completed Course Withdrawal form to the Registrar’ s Office. The Course Withdrawal form can be found in the Campbell Solution Center or on the Registrar’ s Office website. Students are financially responsible for all courses from which they withdraw.
Internal / External Transfers: No more than six graduate credits taken at other accredited institutions prior to matriculation, may be applied toward the master’ s degree. If the applicant has completed graduate-level speech-language pathology coursework within the past five years, prerequisite coursework and respective syllabi will be reviewed by the Program Director to determine if the applicant has met all course learning outcomes and the associated CAA standards of any course for which the student would receive credit.
The program does not award course credit for work experience.
Attendance Policy: In the MSSLP Program, professional knowledge and skills are integrated through classroom, clinical experiences, and service-learning experiences. Punctuality and regular attendance are expected in every course. Instructors take class attendance into account when determining grades. 1. Students are responsible for contacting an instructor in the event of an absence. 2. Up to 3 absences from a single course are allowed without penalty for fall, spring, and summer terms.
