Academic Standards / Grade Requirements: As previously noted, students must achieve a“ C” or better( C- or below is not acceptable) in all science, mathematics, and respiratory care courses( see Grading Scale above). Should the student receive a grade below this level, they will be permitted to repeat the science or mathematics course once. Should the student receive a grade below this level in any respiratory care course, or multiple respiratory care courses within the same semester, the student will be given one opportunity to repeat the course( s). Should a student receive a grade below this level in the repeated course( s) or any subsequent respiratory care course, the student will be dismissed from the program.
Additionally, students must follow the course sequence and cannot progress to any upper-level course without satisfactory completion of prerequisite courses. Advanced standing through credit transfer is possible and handled individually.
Attendance Policies: Attendance in all respiratory care courses( didactic, laboratory and clinical) is mandatory. Excused absences are at the discretion of the faculty, and specific attendance requirements will be provided in each of the course syllabi. Documentation of absences may be required.
Academic Progress,( Probation), and Program Dismissal: Students must follow the general policies and procedures of the university regarding academic progress, probation, and dismissal. A student who fails a course in the major will be required to repeat that course and any other subsequent respiratory care course but only once( see Academic Standards / Grade Requirements above for more detail). If a student fails a course for the first time within the major, the student is required to withdraw from all respiratory care courses until he / she can repeat the course the next time the“ failed” course is offered, provided there is space available. Unsuccessful performance( I. e. < 75 %) with a repeated course in the major or a subsequent course in the major will result in dismissal from the program.
Course Withdrawal Policies: The program follows the course withdraw policy provided by the University as outlined in the Undergraduate Catalog
