Attendance Policies: The Education Studies Field Placements I and II will have as a requirement a 14- week placement in the field. The Education Studies student will participate in a classroom in a school or agency, for one( 1) full day per week, for a period of 14 weeks. The specific 14-week timeframe will be determined in collaboration with the student’ s academic advisor. Attendance at the placement school or agency will be for the hours of the professional teacher day. The AM arrival time and the PM departure time will be the arrival and departure hours of the professional teacher, typically a 7.5-hour day. The Education Studies student will complete the requirements identified in this Handbook. Students in Education studies will complete two( 2) Education Studies placements within their program of study.
Academic Progress, Probation, and Program Dismissal: The Education Studies major provides students the option of completing the requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree in education without completing the requirements for Pennsylvania Teacher Certification. Students in Education Studies must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or better. Any grade below a C in a course within the major must be repeated.
Course Withdrawal Policies: Course withdrawal policies follow those of the University.
Experiential Learning: Prior to February 1 st of the senior year, a student is required to file an application for Field Experiences I and II. Final acceptance into the Field Experiences is decided by the Teacher Education Committee and the Dean. Experiences include: Teacher Apprentice Program( TAP); Field Experience I and II. NOTE: Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from off campus experiential learning opportunities
Non-Academic Criteria for Admission, Progression and Retention
Prior to the beginning of each academic year, students are to upload documents through Complio. The URL students use to create and log in to their accounts is http:// gmercyucompliance. com /.
Compliance Requirements and Clearances:
• Criminal Record Check by completing a Request for Criminal Record Check form.
• FBI Fingerprinting Check
• TB( Tuberculosis Test Validation)
The background check process requires the student to provide their U. S. Social Security number.
Professional Disposition and Conduct: PDE requires the formal monitoring of appropriate dispositions for the teaching profession. In line with this, the program has a formal method for monitoring and supporting the appropriate dispositions for the Education profession. When applying for Field Experience I and II, students do a Disposition Self-Assessment.
