Residents embrace the outdoors
In Apple Valley, Farmington and Rosemount, there are dozens of parks and around 3,000 acres of open space. Contact information for the parks are on the city pages in this edition. Following is a roundup of some of the highlights for the area parks that aren’ t already noted on other pages.
The Apple Valley Community Center, 14603 Hayes Road, has recreational programs and classes for all ages. Community Center amenities include:
- Two gymnasiums, one with a hardwood floor and one sport court floor.- All-Purpose, Multi-Purpose, Arts and Crafts rooms.- Kitchen. The Apple Valley Senior Center, 14601 Hayes Road, offers a variety of activities at its banquet / event center, kitchen facilities, public meeting room, and Wi-Fi access. The Redwood Pool, Community Center and Park are undergoing a renovations in 2025 at the intersection of County Road 42 and Elm Drive. When complete, the project will have an inclusive playground; courts for tennis, pickleball, basketball, and ecuavolley; new community pool; a new park building that will house a community gathering space.
Kelley Park is also undergoing renovations in 2025. When complete, the park at Fortino St. will have a new destination playground, interactive splash pad, and stage with amphitheater seating.
Alimagnet Park, 211 Ridgeview Drive, is an 85-acre trail that features a disc golf course. Discs may be rented at the Apple Valley Community Center. Each set contains a driver, a mid-range disc and a putter.
The city of Rosemount maintains 30 parks ranging from neighborhood parks with playground equipment and open air shelters to the baseball / softball / soccer fields complex at the 49-acre Erickson Park north of Rosemount City Hall at 14115 Brazil Ave.
Along with Erickson Park, which also has tennis courts, the system is highlighted by the winding and hilly unpaved trails of the 44-acre Carrolls Woods Park, which neighbors Schwarz Pond Park behind Rosemount High School.
Schwarz Pond Park also has a nature-based play area and concrete-based skateboard park north of the Community Center and National Guard Armory. The Community Center is the site of the city’ s ice arena, an auditorium, banquet and meeting rooms, and the Parks and Recreation Department.
Baseball / softball and other open fields can be found primarily at Ames Soccer Complex at Dakota County Technical College, and at Jaycee, Bloomfield, Shannon, Erickson, Meadows and Winds parks. Central and Jaycee parks both See Parks, 30
