Stem Cells
Stem Cells
Stem cell therapies have steadily advanced over the past decade , and cell restoration approaches are making progress in clinical testing , with hopeful , though still early , results .
+ BlueRock Therapeutics ( a subsidiary of Bayer ) is leading the way with efforts to replace the natural brain cells lost in Parkinson ’ s with bemdaneprocel ( BRT-DA01 ), dopamineproducing neurons engineered from pluripotent stem cells . Phase II clinical trials are expected to follow on the heels of positive outcomes from its recent Phase I .
+ Other efforts moving toward clinical trials aim to coax the brain to repair itself or combine cell replacement with other therapies to protect and restore the brain . Among other projects , MJFF awarded $ 3 million to scientists at Arizona State University for a trial to implant dopamine cells made from stem cells into brains of people with Parkinson ’ s and a PRKN mutation .
