Saskia Ahmed , PLC Sydney , Observing the Effects of Pool Water on Mung Bean Plant Growth
Perhaps swimming pool water can be reused as a viable alternative for watering plants given the scarcity of natural water in Australia . With this in mind . Saskia created an experiment to see the effects of pool water on mung bean growth . She determined that mung bean growth was negatively affected by chlorinated pool water .
Sahana Kumar , PLC Sydney , The Golden Concentration - Finding the right concentration of pesticide that will kill pests but not harm others
Sahana was keen to determine the minimum concentration of Roundup needed to kill clover , yet have the least effect on the photosynthesis of chlorella . Five different concentrations of Roundup were used , and it was determined that the 4mL / L concentration was the most ideal .
Kohaku Nakagawa-Lagisz , Randwick Boys High School , Tea Time - How do different tea types characteristics affect their rate of decomposition in the water ?
Kohaku was interested in comparing the decomposition rates of different types of tea . Seven types of tea were utilised , and it was seen that hibiscus and rosehip tea decomposed at a faster rate than the other five . Kohaku also noted that tea leaching out into the environment aided in the decomposition .
