We stood guard when a wave of bills aimed at hunting dogs hit the country , including in Connecticut and Nevada where we secured amendments protecting our supporters , as well as fighting bad bills in Florida , Texas and Louisiana . We ’ re working on legislation in several states , including Arkansas , Indiana , Kentucky , and Ohio , that proactively safeguards training , breeding and other sporting-dog activities .
Activists have targeted coyote contests nationwide for years with open-ended legislation persecuting everything from participation to promotion of events . We stopped a bill in Virginia that would have ended any activity rewarding the take of not just coyotes , but any furbearer . However , New York legislators resorted to political hijinks to pass a ban after the legislature adjourned .
The Sportsmen ’ s Alliance traces its roots back to a 1977 ballot initiative to end trapping , and we defend it wholeheartedly today . Activists have twisted the trapping battle , and their approach to stopping it , by choking off the sale of fur items in states like Oregon , Washington and Hawaii , where we defeated them in 2022 .
