The perennial 3A power Hoxie Mustangs finished 7-4 a season ago , adding another playoff berth to its rich history . Coach Tom Sears will look to replace 20 graduating seniors with some talented underclassmen and a core group of senior leaders who are motivated to get back to the top of the tough 3A-3 conference . The Mustangs will have to replace the whole offensive line , but are not short of talent at the skill positions in their power option attack . Senior Kayden Glenn will be at the quarterback position after playing multiple positions over the last few seasons . Glenn had 33 carries for 133 yards and 3 touchdowns and 33 catches for 508 yards and 10 touchdowns at receiver last year . Glenn will have several weapons at his disposal with fellow senior Camden Brooks returning at running back . Brooks rushed for 957 yards and 12 touchdowns while catching 8 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns . University of Central Arkansas commit Jake Jones will be at tight end where he had 12 catches for 167 yards and 3 touchdowns . Junior Prechton Wilkerson is also back at running back where he rushed for 667 yards and 6 touchdowns in the run heavy offense . Coach Sears lists Nolan Blackshear , Dillon Guthrie , and Xavier Piatiak as newcomers who can step in and make an impact . On the defensive side of the ball , Hoxie returns a strong nucleus from a season ago . Jones will serve as the team ’ s anchor . Seniors Mattheis Dobbs , Ethan Dulaney , and Landon Gibson lead the way . Dulaney had 90 tackles and two interceptions , while Dobbs recorded 72 tackles and 4 interceptions at the linebacker position . Gibson had 46 tackles at the defensive end leading the defensive front for the Mustangs . Look for newcomers Damion Rundel , Topher Nicholas , and Stanley Boggs to make plays on defense as well . Coach Sears likes the work his guys have put in saying , “ This group has had a great spring and early summer . We are very excited about our opportunities .” Look for the Hoxie Mustangs to once again be at or near the top of the conference and a real threat in the postseason .
Cedar Ridge finished 4-4 in 2022 , and the Timberwolves will hope to gain some experience early in the season to make a late season run in 8 man unsanctioned football . Coach Scott Morgan will look to a young group of Wolves to make that happen . Junior Aiden Jones won the quarterback job in the spring . Jones is an athletic runner that produces a dual threat possibility .
