Bachmann-Strauss Fellowship in Dystonia Research A new training program to grow the global base of researchers studying dystonia — the third most common movement disorder and a symptom of PD — was announced by MJFF early in 2022 . The Bachmann-Strauss Fellowship in Dystonia Research will support specialized training for researchers identifying the causes of dystonia and potential treatments . The Fellowship awarded its first grants for two-year fellowships to the University of Lübeck in Germany and Yale University in Connecticut . This pilot program will encourage other trainees in this area , connect families with available resources , and accelerate the pace of research toward cures .
PPMI Early Investigators Awards As the breadth and depth of data collected through PPMI increase , more clinician-researchers with diverse interests and areas of expertise are needed to unlock the power of the PPMI dataset . Recognizing the urgent need to expand fieldwide talent and provide support to PPMI ’ s leadership researchers , MJFF launched the PPMI Early Stage Investigators Funding Program . Through this program , four grantees early in their career will each receive a two-year award totaling $ 200,000 to contribute critical analysis to PPMI and to train with the current leading crop of Parkinson ’ s scientists .

Lily Safra , 1934 – 2022

In July 2022 , MJFF lost a longtime partner with the passing of Lily Safra , chairwoman of the Edmond J . Safra Foundation . Mrs . Safra provided transformative support to organizations around the world in the name of her late husband , Edmond J . Safra , who lived with PD . Through her immense generosity , she undoubtedly changed the course of Parkinson ’ s research and care .
