The newest device is a single use medical device used for the open surgical repair or replacement of damaged or diseased vessels of the aortic arch and descending aorta with or without involvement of the ascending aorta in cases of aneurysm and / or dissection . In this case , the Type A dissection was aortic arch to descending thoracic aorta and would have required the patient to undergo two surgeries without this latest device used by the surgeons . The aortic arch was repaired at the same time as a TEVAR was performed .

In keeping with the culture to advance latest treatment options , the Aortic Center surgical team participates in aortic-focused clinical trials as principal or co-investigators . As a result , patients benefit from access to advanced treatments and techniques stemming from the research .
