WAVE - Launched last fiscal year , WAVE study is a prospective , randomized , controlled , multicenter study comparing the Merit WRAPSODY™ endovascular stent graft to percutaneous transluminal angiopalsty for treatment of venous outflow circuit stenosis or occlusion in hemodialysis patients . Principal investigator : Stephen Hohmann , MD , FACS .
InnAVasc - A study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the InnAVasc arteriovenous graft ( AVG ) when implanted in and used for hemodialysis in participants suffering from end stage renal failure ( ESRD ). The InnAVasc AVG is implanted and used similar to other standard of care dialysis grafts currently on the market . However , the InnAVasc AVG has been uniquely designed to potentially allow for immediate needle access ( same day as implant surgery ) as opposed to an up to four weeks of waiting . Principal investigator : Stephen Hohmann , MD , FACS .
The rise in complex dialysis patients was a catalyst to bring forward the new Inside-Out ® procedure developed for patients who are unable to continue with dialysis due to blockage . Within days after FDA approval , the first case in North Texas was completed using a new system which is the first and only FDA cleared device at this time allowing surgeons to obtain central venous access in patients with blocked veins . The surgeon uses this system to maneuver the device from the femoral area to the preferred rightsided access near the right internal jugular vein — the chest location where normally a perm cath would be placed . Due to the blockage in some patients , they have lost their ability to continue with dialysis . This procedure could ultimately help save patients by restoring their ability to continue with dialysis .

The CONNECT-AV study is available for interested qualified patients . This is a prospective , multicenter clinical study of the BD WavelinQ EndoAVF System for the Creation of Arteriovnous AV Fistula in Patients Requiring Dialysis ( CONNECT-AV ). Principal investigator : Stephen Hohmann , MD , FACS .
Humanity - The assessment of Humacyte ’ s Human Accelular Vessel in patients needing renal replacement therapy continued in fiscal year 2022 . Principal investigator : Stephen Hohmann , MD , FACS .

• Quest - Evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the Altius ® System High Frequency Nerve Block ( HFNB ) treatment for the management of post amputation pain . Principal investigator : John Eidt , MD , RVT , RPVI , FACS .
• RAPAD - Studying the use of a commercially available radiation protection pad for the reduction of radiation exposure by surgeons during fluroscopic-imaging guided procedures . Principal investigator : Gregory Pearl , MD .
HOME TO THE SECOND OLDEST VASCULAR SURGERY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Two fellows are selected annually for the Baylor University Medical Center Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program . One of approximately 100 such programs in the country , the hospital ’ s Vascular Surgery Fellowship is more than 55 years old , making it one of the most established and most competitive vascular surgery programs in the country . The fellowship has evolved over the years from an apprenticeship-type experience to a competency-based education , encompassing a wide array of skills including technical , behavioral and ethical .
In addition , fellows receive multi-faceted experience including simulation , cadaver surgery , simulation surgery , and other training approaches . Stephen Hohmann , MD , FACS , a vascular surgeon on the medical staff of Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Dallas , is the current program director .
