Established in 2009 , King Abdullah University of Science and Technology ( KAUST ) serves as a beacon of knowledge that bridges people and cultures for the betterment of humanity . As a global and private university , we are dedicated to advancing science and technology through distinctive and collaborative research integrated with graduate education .
Our university is currently educating and training almost 1,530 master ’ s and doctoral students , supported by an academic community of approximately 193 faculty members , 559 postdocs and 460 research staff . With more than 110 nationalities working and living at KAUST , our university brings together people and ideas from all over the world for lasting impact . Our structure and culture of collaboration enable us to look at large-scale issues — such as food and health , water , energy , the environment and the digital domain — and to address them from a variety of integrated perspectives .
To achieve this strategic mission , KAUST faculty , students and researchers have access to worldclass laboratories and facilities , enabling them to explore ideas without constraints .
KAUST has twelve large-scale research centers that focus on advanced membranes , catalysis , clean combustion , computational bioscience , desert agriculture , extreme computing , Red Sea , resilient computing and cybersecurity , solar energy , upstream petroleum engineering , visual computing , and water desalination and reuse . In addition , KAUST has four initiatives in the areas of artificial intelligence , circular carbon , climate & livability , and smart health .
KAUST also has twelve Core Labs , which provide technologically advanced facilities , training , and service to KAUST faculty , students , researchers and industrial partners in the areas of analytical chemistry , animal resources , bioscience , coastal and marine services , imaging and characterization , lab equipment maintenance , nanofabrication , plant growth , prototyping and product development , radiation labeling , supercomputing , and visualization .
