Tasaru Ntomonok ’ s V-Day Safe House for the Girls in the southern Rift Valley in Narok County continues to serve girls running away from “ the cut ” ( Female Genital Mutilation or FGM ) and early childhood marriage . Under Agnes Pareyio ’ s leadership , the center continued to bravely confront the cultural practice of FGM in the Maasai community in Kenya and has won many hard-earned victories , influencing community members to take on alternative rite of passage rituals , and educating women and men alike about the power of an educated girl .
THE YOUNG CENTER FOR IMMIGRANT CHILDREN ’ S RIGHTS
The Young Center for Immigrant Children ’ s Rights in Brownsville , TX protects and advances the rights and best interests of immigrant children according to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and state and federal law . The Young Center is a champion for the best interests of children who arrive in the United States on their own , from all corners of the world , supporting them in deportation proceedings , advocating for their best interests , and standing for the creation of a dedicated children ’ s immigrant justice system that ensures the safety and well-being of every child . The Young Center ’ s goal is to change the immigration system so that children in immigration proceedings are recognized as children , and best interests are made a part of the decision-making process .
VENCEREMOS A worker-based organization in Arkansas whose mission is to ensure the human rights of poultry workers . Venceremos seeks to spearhead adaptation of the Worker-driven Social Responsibility model to the poultry supply chain . Funds supported their general work in the wake of the Covid pandemic which greatly put workers at risk .
