HOMESCHOOL FACT SHEET
The Cornerstone Christian School opened in September 1981 , with 56 students in grades K-6 . We are now both an elementary and secondary school ( Pre-K through Grade 12 ) offering a full academic program to children of families in the greater Hartford area who are interested in a Christian education . From these communities , over 40 churches are represented in our school .
Teachers : Each faculty member is a born again Christian , committed to a Christian philosophy of education . Our goal is to create a learning environment where each child will grow and develop to the best of his or her ability--spiritually , academically , physically , and socially .
Curriculum : The ministry of The Cornerstone Christian School is to train students to have Christian world and life views . We seek to integrate scriptural principles with subject matter in all classes .
Textbooks : In order to maintain the most current curriculum possible , students in grades 6-12 are responsible for purchasing their own textbooks ( including required novels , consumables , traditional textbooks , etc .). A book list is provided for each course at the time that course schedules are issued .
Enrollment : The Cornerstone Christian School admits students of any race , color , national and ethnic origin to all the rights , privileges , program , and activities generally accorded to the students at the school . It does not discriminate on the basis of race , color , sex , national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies or admission policies . There are no denominational requirements for enrollment . The course work is geared towards students who possess average to above average academic ability . The school does cooperate with the public school system to offer limited support for students diagnosed with specific learning disabilities .
Accreditation : The Cornerstone Christian School is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International ( ACSI ). We are also accredited by ACSI and Middle States Association ( MSA ) for Kindergarten through Grade 12 . Our accreditation is fully recognized by the Connecticut State Department of Education .
Christian Teaching : The cardinal doctrines of the Christian church ( as stated in the attached Statement of Faith ) are imparted to the children in order that they may learn that God is at the center of all things . No distinctive denominational doctrine is taught . Specific doctrinal issues are referred to the child ’ s own parent or pastor .
School Calendar : Cornerstone maintains a Google Calendar , which is also synced with our free school app . We highly recommend all families subscribe to this calendar ( or refer to the CCS app ) in order to stay informed of updates throughout the year .
Dress Code : The school has a dress code that is required for full-time students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 and homeschool students in Grades 6-12 . Students taking P . E . classes ( in Grade 3 and above ) are required to purchase and wear the CCS P . E . uniform . Homeschool students in the elementary grades are required to dress neatly , modestly , and appropriately for the course being taken . Specific information on dress code regulations is available in each of the offices .
