Frida was deeply influenced by indigenous mexican culture which made her use bright colors and indigenous symbols . She even used the mexican mythology of the monkey which is a symbol of lust , but she portrayed them as tendered and protective jewish and christians often depicted and showed interest in her work . Frida inspired and influenced the world by being the first female artist to rebel against the canons of art to explore her psyche , full of symbols and personal stories . Frida was the type of person who would defy the gender stereotypes of how a woman should look and be back in the 1900s . When a woman was strictly supposed to be feminine she would refuse to alter her ‘ masculine ’ features , which include her iconic mono-brow , her faint mustache , and even exaggerated those features in her portraits . Even going through all the hardships in her life she did not let that stop her from painting , she painted how she felt and how she pictured her life and what she portrayed in her imagination and creativity . Even in modern times . People all over the world still look up to her for
being the first mexican artist to build a patrimony of cultural ideals , artistic techniques , and social values for her country .
