Membership within the district , throughout the Auxiliary , and for most US volunteer organizations has been steadily declining for the past fifteen years . Attracting and retaining a talented and diverse membership are flotillas ' most pressing challenge , and its greatest opportunity . It is doubtful this trend will change , so we should adapt and concentrate on " quality " rather than " quantity ". We must all build an inclusive culture that not only attracts the best of our diverse communities but fosters an environment that encourages them to stay ."
These have been trying times for all of us conducting Auxiliary business and activities , and there are still many challenges on the horizon . Yet , these are perfect Coast Guard Auxiliary conditions - because when times are at their worst - Auxiliarists are at their best . My commitment to you remains resolute . I am as dedicated as ever to driving change at the top to improve our organization , making it easier to be an Auxiliarist , and ensuring your dedication is understood and appreciated .
This is an exciting time . In my 17 years as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary , I have never been more proud of the members wearing our uniform as I am today . I know where we came from , and I ’ m excited about where we
are headed .
