Amazon fulfillment center opening
The Amazon fulfillment center became operational in FY 20-21 , bringing over 3,000 new full-time jobs to Garner and approximately $ 250 million in new investment . The Garner Economic Development Corp ., which led the redevelopment of the brownfield site , earned a Cleantech Impact Award from the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster in December 2020 .
GEDC Scholarship Endowment
The Garner Economic Development Corp . established a $ 250,000 endowment with the Wake Tech Foundation that will provide scholarships to graduating seniors at Garner Magnet and South Garner High Schools who want to continue their education at Wake Technical Community College .
Open Space Purchase
The Town of Garner and The Conservation Fund announced the purchase of 86.5 acres of undeveloped wetlands and open space for future public access and protection of regional drinking water resources . Town officials said the acquisition , located southeast of U . S . 401 South , could make possible the extension of Garner ’ s greenway system .
