In addition , the Town-owned Garner Performing Arts Center in our historic downtown offers awardwinning programming and a diverse array of shows by local as well as nationally touring acts year-round .
The Town is nearing completion of its bond program approved by voters in March 2013 . Garner has issued $ 35.7 million in general obligation bonds , including a $ 7.2 million issue in fiscal year 2019-20 . These bonds have enabled the Town to construct a new Town Hall and police headquarters as well as the Garner Recreation Center ; to install sidewalks in numerous parts of town ; and to make important parks and recreation enhancements .
The Town is poised for another bond program and will put four bond questions on the fall 2021 municipal ballot to be decided by Garner voters . The four bond questions are for Street and Sidewalk Bonds , Parks and Recreational Bonds , Public Safety and Services Facilities Bonds and Stormwater Bonds . The local economy remains robust . A 2.6-millionsquare-foot Amazon fulfillment center opened in Garner in August 2020 , bringing 3,000 new full-time jobs and becoming the town ’ s largest employer .
Other major employers in Garner include the Wake County Public School System , Food Lion , Walmart , Pergo , Cabela ’ s , Golden State Foods , F & D Huebner , LLC ( McDonald ’ s ) and Target .
Garner is known for its outstanding quality of life and for being an inclusive , welcoming community . The National Civic League recognized these virtues by naming Garner an All-America City in 2013 .
