Woah. That. Was. Amazing. She got to experience what her mom went through! She couldn’t believe it, it was surreal. It was so cool how she got to actually be in her own mothers shoes, and it almost felt as if it wasn’t a dream.
The coronavirus and her mother not only made her realize that there was a virus in the past, but that these moments of despair and darkness can end up being what you are most proud of! People don’t need to hide in the shadows, forgetting about their hardships, they have to embrace them, and teach others about overcoming setbacks, and breaking through barriers. For her mother, it was a painful but helpful experience, but for Kiera it was something that motivated her to persevere through even the most difficult struggles in life.
She knew what to do. She had to tell others, she had to spread this message. As she got ready and went downstairs, she had this sort of trembling in her body, but the good kind, when you are about to burst out of excitement. She needed to speak. She felt determination. So she fixed her ponytail, licked her lips, and headed to school, where she would learn to change the world.
For My Mother
by Lukas da Luz
My hair is longer than a lot of boys,
Long walk home and no company.
Undisturbed.
I'm not like them.
We're poorer.
Almost as close as brothers
Instead of father and son
Tough and tuff are two different words.
“Shut your trap."
Can't ride a bull, you can talk it.
Scared to death.
Nervous wreck.
Blood draining from my face,
An incredulous look.
Beat the tar out of her.
Half to death
A cool deadly bluff.
