WHAT IS THE Week of the Young Child™ ?
The purpose of the Week of the Young Child™ is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs .
NAEYC first established the Week of the Young Child™ in 1971 , recognizing that the early childhood years ( birth through age 8 ) lay the foundation for children ’ s success in school and later life . The Week of the Young Child™ is a time to plan how we — as citizens of a community , of a state , and of a nation — will better meet the needs of all young children and their families .

Parents , please do your part to celebrate all young children and our meaningful work . Here is how …
1 . Write a letter to your child for us to read to him or her in class We will make a special show and tell activity from this . Use the template provided in the blue folder to complete the project . Each child will know how very special they are !
2 . Dress your child for these special days :
Music Monday - Wear Your Rock Star Hair !
We ’ ll read books that celebrates music and creativity . We ’ ll also explore sounds from everyday items and of course , jam out to music and instruments .
Tasty Tuesday - Wear Purple to Celebrate Early Childhood Education !
We ’ ll enhance special book experiences with yummy samples from natural foods and felt puppets .
Work Together Wednesday - Wear Your Thinking Hat !
We ’ ll focus on teamwork and acceptance with great books like , Little Blue Truck and Rosie Revere Engineer . Our learners will work alongside each other to build incredible structures and creations .
Artsy Thursday - Wear Colorful or Mismatched Socks and Shoes .
We ’ ll have sensory activities for all our learners to encourage unique masterpieces along with some special books .
Family Friday - Wear Your Spirit Shirt !
We ’ ll enjoy Todd Parr ’ s books , The Family Book and We Belong Together to identify different kinds of families and how we are all loved by our own unique and special combination of family members . This is the day to bring in your special letter to your child !
