their units ' line of sight , meaning that it will be difficult to see where the dangerous , powerful enemies in Sodden are positioned . This provides a difficult early experience , but means that players will have more resources to expand their order as the game progresses .
The overworld map screen provides the main structure of the gameplay experience , and is where players will create their emergent narratives . From it , they can manage their bases , move their units to explore areas or attack foes , and interact with other in-game characters . Figure 3 resembles the overworld map in A New Order ; it includes information about cities , geographical features and ruins . Each settlement has a notice board which contains a variety of monster contracts , and players can take these contracts by negotiating a price with the people who set them . Once the player has moved their witchers to the contract location , they zoom in and face the relevant monsters in combat , and if they defeat them they can return to the visited city to collect their payment . Contracts will provide the player with orens , the in-game currency , which they can use for a variety of purposes when expanding their order . For example , cities are also commercial hubs , and players can use orens to purchase new equipment or hire workers to construct upgrades at their bases .
The ruins shown in figure 3 are also present in A New Order ' s world map . These ruins are important , as the player can establish new bases in them without consequences . By restoring the ruined strongholds , they can expand their order ' s influence in a peaceful way . However , the contents of ruins may be beneficial or detrimental , so players need to be prepared for the worst when approaching them . If a group of monsters have made their nest within , the player will be faced with a difficult battle before they are able to claim the area . On the other hand , the ruins may contain useful items or magical artefacts that can make their witchers more powerful . Players may also find lost tomes that contain certain information about the world ' s lore , similar to the books that can be found and read in CD Projekt Red ' s game series . This is an exciting prospect for fans , as they can learn more about their favourite world while making their own mark on it .
After establishing a witcher stronghold , players will be able to access a base management screen that is similar to figure 4 . From here , they can construct new buildings , recruit new witchers , and repair or retrain them respectively . Constructing and upgrading buildings will allow players to train new types of units and expand their stronghold ' s area of influence , which is vital when trying to achieve victory . In other similar strategy games , playable factions have specific bonuses and unique unit rosters . This feature is adapted to A New Order through the inclusion of witcher schools . The Witcher world details a plethora of these schools , each producing witchers that are characterised by unique mindsets and combat styles ( Batylda : 2015 ).
For instance , if players construct a ' School of the Cat ' in one of their bases , they can create Cat Witchers , a unit that uses speed and agility to defeat its opponents in combat . If they construct a ' School of the Griffin ', then they can field Griffin Witchers that use basic magic such as the Queen shield depicted in figure 2 for a mixture of offensive and defensive purposes ( Sapowski , 2020 : 64 ).
It is up to the player to decide which units to train dependent on their in-game circumstances , as certain types of combat will be particularly effective against specific enemies . Furthermore , players will only be able to invest in a few schools
