At Prairie Hills
utilizing The Beach Ottumwa,
such as dumping them down a
water slide to race or dumping
them into the wave pool to see
who came out first.
GOPiP is planning on making
a day out of the races. A “Flock
of Food Trucks” will be held on
the bridge, and Community 1st
Credit Union will be hosting
kids’ activities. There will also
be live music. And, she said, the
event is being planned with a
retro feel to it, with lots of teal
and other colors popular in the
1990s.
Then, at 2 p.m. the ducks will
be dumped into the river with
the aid of a dump truck provided
by Norris Asphalt/Douds
Stone.
Greiner said the event will be
held rain or shine come Sept.
19.
“We can still pour the ducks
over and people can still win,”
she said. “Some of the festivities
may just be cut short.”
And, the idea of a family-friendly
outdoor event will
go over well with the community.
“I believe after this
pandemic is over, people will
be looking forward to something
fun to do,” Greiner said in
April. “It’s a great way to end
the summer, just to come out
and see the ducks float down
the river. How often do you get
to see that?”
