League City has 11.5 miles of hike and bike trails, a paddle
trail that runs 6.5 miles down Clear Creek, the third largest
boating anchorage in the U.S., and three golf courses. There
are also ample opportunities for fishing in the local creeks,
lakes, ponds, and bayous as well as nearby saltwater fishing in
Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
A Wilderness in the City
Not far from League City is the
largest urban wilderness preserve
in the United States—Armand
Bayou Nature Center. Visitors can
explore the 2,500-acre preserve
through guided kayak tours,
pontoon cruises, night hikes,
and by walking the numerous
nature trails. Wildlife is prevalent
throughout the preserve, and
includes alligators, deer, birds,
bats, armadillos, and even two
bison.
