This year has brought challenges like no other in our lifetime .
Life as we know it has been uprooted and dramatically altered , with challenges to both the public and private sectors that have forced closures , the loss of some of our region ’ s treasured small businesses and led to virtual standstills in business and commerce . While we must now acknowledge that the winter season will be really tough on all of us , we must keep the faith .
Now is not the time to give up . Together , we must do everything we can to move forward , working through this pandemic , keeping our employees safe and engaged and remaining positive .
I hope you join me in great anticipation to a bright 2021 and all of the aspects of a healthy economic climate that await us in the months ahead . Thanks for allowing me to share these thoughts .
Cordially , Kevin adoption — the hope is students from local universities , such as Sacramento State , will move into key positions that will drive the future of mobility in the state . Sac State President Robert Nelsen says as many as a half-dozen companies have been recruited so far to participate in that effort and they plan to use students as interns .
What many people in the community don ’ t realize is the Greater Sacramento Economic Council spearheaded the California Mobility Center , which has leased space in Depot Park , and is one of the original founding partners with SMUD , Sac State , UC Davis , PEM Motion and many others . This effort will work to streamline the path between innovation in electric vehicles and market adoption , a key to ensure the region is building unique assets and industry partnerships to allow companies to scale , creating tradable sector jobs in the region .
The California Mobility Center is one of the partnerships and programs the Greater Sacramento Economic Council is leading to help create tradable sector jobs and shape the economic future of the region .
“ What we ’ ve been trying to do at the Greater Sacramento Economic Council is reach out to businesses in California to try and grow the business and economic capacities of the Sacramento region , and to make sure we have the right workforce ,” explains John Jackson , president of William Jessup University in Rocklin and co-chair of GSEC ’ s Competitiveness Council .
Local community colleges , Sac State , UC Davis and private schools such as Jessup are asking industries what they need in a workforce and then modifying their curricula to produce graduates who fit the bill . Jackson says he believes these higher education institutions have formed their strongest partnership in many years through a common mission : building a talent pool that makes the Sacramento region a more attractive place for businesses to locate .
